The Pictures team is responsible for the commissioning, editing, production and distribution of images for use across internal and external platforms to promote Channel 4, including All 4, EPGs, the external media, and wider corporate use.

The Pictures team will come up with ideas and concepts for commissioning shoots on location and in studio and are responsible for distributing all images both to internal stakeholders – particularly All 4 and for digital syndication – and externally to the media.  

They work with commissioning editors, producers, All 4, talent, publicists and some of the country’s best editorial photographers to create images that represent C4’s brand – for use both as promotional images and to help viewers find Channel 4 content on EPGs and on All 4.

The Pictures team reports into the Press & Publicity department, which is responsible for generating and shaping earned press and media coverage of Channel 4’s programmes, content, services and talent. 


The Pictures team is looking for a creative individual to commission and manipulate photography and deliver images of a high standard for all of Channel 4’s needs, both internally and externally.

  • Liaising with Commissioning Editors, All 4, the Press team, and other internal stakeholders in the commissioning and research of photography and ensuring it is suitable for use across all platforms and uses
  • Giving clear concept briefs to photographers
  • Ensuring photography spend is within budgeted amounts allocated to each genre
  • Dealing with requests for publicity pictures – internally from All 4, the Press team, Marketing, Corporate and other internal departments; externally from both traditional press and digital platforms
  • Strategic overview of the various image needs of the business and the changing media landscape
  • Editing images for distribution across VOD platforms and different environments and media
  • Loading and captioning all images into a digital asset management system for populating our press website
  • Photoshop & design work 


Technical & Professional Skills
  • Experience in commissioning photography, including studio shoots with a creative approach
  • Contact book including photographers, studios, make-up artists and stylists 
  • Familiarity with photography contract clauses and deliverables 
  • Proficient in Photoshop and art working
  • Basic technical knowledge of photography
  • Experience and knowledge of digital VOD platform use
  • Knowledge of digital asset management systems
  • Imaginative approach to picture publicity campaigns, including social media angles
  • An understanding of the growing importance of images and multi-variant testing to drive linear and online viewing
Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making
  • Working to tight deadlines
Managing Resources
  • Ability to communicate and manage talent, agents, production & press confidently and diplomatically
Relationship Management
  • Experience of commissioning and delivering images for different internal stakeholders with individual needs
  • Contacts within picture desks

  • Initiative – able to ‘think on feet’
  • Good organisation skills and basic knowledge of budgets
Business Impact/Strategic Perspective
  • Understanding of Channel 4’s brand values
  • Knowledge of the television industry
